A psychoanalytic consideration of Pasolini's Salo. - The journal of the American Academy of Psychoanalysis and Dynamic Psychiatry
Salo represented the culmination of Pier Paolo Pasolini's career as a filmmaker and engages several questions concerning the nature of perversion and the excitement with the negative. Through exploration of Pasolini's motives and techniques for creating this film, an analysis is offered of the creative process that does not seek to create an aesthetically pleasing compromise formation of psychic conflict, nor a form of erotizing sadomasochism. Rather, this film is explored as an example of a lucid and psychoanalytically informed artwork that speaks to the psychic fascination with what is purely negative--thanatos--which is not mediated by libido.
Type-2 submucosal posterior laryngeal cleft diagnosed on CT scan. - European archives of oto-rhino-laryngology : official journal of the European Federation of Oto-Rhino-Laryngological Societies (EUFOS) : affiliated with the German Society for Oto-Rhino-Laryngology - Head and Neck Surgery
Posterior laryngeal cleft (PLC) is a rare developmental abnormality, which requires early diagnostic laryngoscopy and management if considerable morbidity and mortality are to be avoided. We report the case of a 25-year-old man with a life-long history of a weak, breathy voice, in whom the diagnosis of PLC was made by CT scanning. This is the first reported case of a PLC being diagnosed by CT scanning. Whilst direct laryngoscopy should remain the investigation of choice in congenital stridor, CT scanning may occasionally be useful.
